Guild Houses of Antwerp
The Guild Houses adorning the main square of Antwerp were constructed around 1580.
They are mostly gothic in style although some houses have some classical details on their facades.
Construction reflects the tradition of building in wood with the use of stone and brick to imitate wooden pillars and beams.
The group of houses is characterised by its variety. Each house strives to be different in height and rhythm.
They feature extensive use of glass for maximum light penetration.
